Bio-opticsThis is a recently started collaboration between Physics and Physiology.Insects and spiders have a wide variety of visual "architectures", many of which are still to be studied. Some of the strategies employed by insects have application to optical problems such as motion detection. Not all of the aspects of vision studied here are strictly optical - the work involves excursions into the physiological basis of the neural processing of visual information. Students entering this field have a wide variety of problems to choose from at the interface between the physical and the life sciences. See also the Insect Vision Laboratory in the School of Molecular and Biomedical Science. Student Projects available!!
